Health Canada announces consultation regarding new regulations related to veterinary drugs

Health Canada has announced a 75 day (July 2 – September 14, 2016) consultation on proposed changes to the Food and Drug Regulations to help address the issue of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) in the veterinary drugs context.  Antimicrobial resistance is a serious and growing public health threat in Canada and around the world. The AMR regulatory proposal reflects feedback received during a broad range of consultations with stakeholders over the years, and it will be important to continue this level of cooperation going forward.

You can view the official Health Canada consultation and it's details.

The changing regulations are just part of the picture.  Policy changes are anticipated that will move all medically important antimicrobials under veterinary prescription.
